Agata Bisping & Marcin Maciejewski: Future Literacy – Future of Media
Over the following two days, the students were joined by Agata Bisping and Marcin Maciejewski. Bisping has worked on projects with ING, 10Clouds, X-Lander, Wroclaw, Krakow, Katowice Municipalities and many more. She is currently a postgraduate lecturer at AGH University of Science and Technology in Krakow, teaching Trendwatching & Futures Studies and is currently PhD student at the AGH Doctoral School. Maciejewski is a Future(s) Strategist who leads R&D projects for future products and services. He is also a lecturer at AGH University as well as SWPS University in Warsaw and he has a keen interest in kinesthetic learning, and the constant changes of human nature.
The accomplished duo guided the intensive workshop sessions with the first day offering introduction to Future Literacy and jump-starting the projects, and the second day being a time to refine the students’ presentation content.
The students were split into 6 teams, and each collaborated to identify a current problem in the realm of media, and find a plausible solution. To take the step further, they were also encouraged to think of future scenarios that threaten the progress of their projects with the question “What if…”. This probed the participants to think broadly, dynamically, and creatively to gain a new appreciation for the complexities of assessing the future as social scientists.
What was remarkable about the sessions was not only the dedication to different media forms to portray their messages (the use of traditional and new media tools), but also the amount of time dedicated to thinking collectively with people of different perspectives to define a common threat and find solutions to it.
